You’re Perfect for Boudoir Right Now As You Are! Truly!

“Everyone you work with looks so perfect. I don’t like my [tummy, butt, back, scar, moles, freckles, thighs, insert your body part of choice here].”

I hear this so often.

Women look through the images on my site and think, “Oh no! I’ll never look like these women! I have cellulite, pimples, wrinkles, (whatever they don’t like).”

But every woman has something she doesn’t like about her face and/or body (takes one to know one, trust me on this one!).

That’s why I include retouching in my packages. Yes, I said, INCLUDE. Sure, it’s very time consuming. When done right, I find I can spend 20, 30, perhaps even 40 minutes on a single image. But the point is, I want the women I work with to feel happy and comfortable presenting their session images to the important loves in their lives. Bottom line.

Sure there’s so much controversy about retouching – in fact, I just watched a tutorial DVD where the instructor lifted a-just-about-perfect model’s boobs, butt and narrowed an already nearly-invisible waistline. Necessary? Probably not. So, sure, retouching can be overdone.

I tend to tell my clients in their 30s, 40s and beyond (p.s. I love shooting grandmas!!) that I see retouching like this: I’m only giving back what time and/or motherhood have taken away. It’s that simple. Right? Yes.

Look at the women on my site. Do they look overdone? NO.

I’ve seen sites where women look like half-human barbie dolls. Plastic alien looking skin they probably paid hundreds more to achieve. Nope. Won’t find that here. That’s why women think I only work with naturally “perfect” (whatever that means) clients.

So, if you’ve been thinking about boudoir, but felt pressured to “lose 10 more pounds,” “give a serious go at that new anti-aging cream,” etc. etc. forget about it. When a recent client who wanted something simple couldn’t decide on a black or white backdrop, I suggested we shoot both! The white feels pretty, ethereal, soft, while the black feels more dramatic, more sensual. The result was images in both black and white and color, and an album filled with beautiful images representing the multifaceted nature of my client.

Whenever I work with a new client, my goal is to help them first clarify, and then achieve their vision. I have to say, I just love shooting Boudoir!! It’s always lots of fun collaborating with other smart, beautiful, strong women! Reminds me that we’re by far the more interesting gender! (Just kidding guys…maybe!)

Boudoir Photos Can Be Art!

Recently, two clients were kind enough to send me pictures of their boudoir art as hung on their walls.

The first one surprised her husband by replacing a popular 18×24 print of a well-known celebrity with a portrait of her from our shoot (the one on the far left shot at the Bay Shore Marina). Here she proves she definitely holds her own alongside the creme de la creme–Raquel Welch, Brigitte Bardot, and Marilyn Monroe–fabulous celebrity women no more beautiful than she!

The second one surprised her husband by first posing for artistic nudes, and secondly, by having her favorite black and white boudoir image transformed into art, in the form of a large 20×30 gallery-wrapped canvas!

I often get emails that read something like the following:

“Hi. I came across your site and am interested in your photography. I am easy to work with and I only want about 5 prints, so can you offer me a lower price?”

While I appreciate kind words about my work and that someone has taken the time to read the information on my site, I am nonetheless reminded that most non-photographers are truly unaware of the amount of work that goes on behind the scenes in order to create beautiful images…and hence, unaware as to why we charge the fees we do…whether the client wants 1 print or 100.

So, I thought I’d provide a typical scenario.

Deciding on Different Looks…

I hear different variations of this question a lot: “I’d like to pose for boudoir photography but does it have to be risque or nude?” And while the manner in which it’s posed may differ, the answer is always the same: Boudoir photography can be whatever you want it to be, can look however you want it to look!

Because I can’t always share images from my boudoir shoots online (I fiercely guard privacy as per my client’s requests), I sometimes engage a model for a shoot so that I might showcase different looks and concepts I can use with my clients. I did just that a few days ago and following are some images that demonstrate that you can have a boudoir shoot that looks like it came straight out of a Victoria’s Secret catalog, from a fairy tale dream, or from a high fashion magazine. And no, you don’t have to be nude or go risque…unless you want to! : )

Valentine’s Day is Right Around the Corner!

As I head into a fun weekend – pin-up parties and boudoir photography shoots intended as Valentine’s day gifts, I thought I’d post a quick little reminder that Valentine’s day is right around the corner!

If you’re considering boudoir photography as a gift, be sure to book soon. Ideally shoots are best scheduled before January is out – to enable time for editing, retouching, selection and ordering of calendars, prints, or those little black books he’ll be sure to cherish.

Welcome to the new improved LIBoudoirPhotography.com site!

2009 was a fun ride – I had the honor of photographing soooooo many wonderful people, and some more than once. It’s always a pleasure to work with new faces and make new friends, but it’s also really special to be asked to shoot someone again.

Boudoir photography is so much fun and was a primary focus in 2009; in 2010 I will be working with a few new surprise partners to offer even more services and value, so stay tuned!
