This has been an interesting week to say the least. Twice (and it's only Wednesday) has someone equated boudoir with porn.
I wonder if these same folks think Victoria's Secret ads are porn. If Agent Provocateur ads are porn. If Maxim is porn. And if all the very many female celebrities who have been shot in sensual, seductive ways, not to mention nudes, have engaged in porn shoots?
Seems ridiculous in that context doesn't it? And yet, boudoir gets a bad rap sometimes. I'm well aware of it though; I mean I've been at this a while now. And I don't even blink. That's because I know the truth. I know how powerful the boudoir experience can be. I have seen clients tear up when they see their images because they feel so beautiful; that they've conquered something--body image challenges, negative self-talk. And maybe even that they've taken one very big step towards self-acceptance in some way.
I highly doubt any porn star has ever had that experience.
Boudoir is personal, I give you that. BUT it is soooooo far from porn. It is about a journey towards self-acceptance, body acceptance and self-love.
How can that ever be a bad thing?
I feel like a warrior -- I will continue to share stories, and support the women who brave the boudoir experience.
As I sit here at a breast cancer fundraising event, I know there are so many women who struggle with self-love and body acceptance. For them, I will forge ahead despite the naysayers who have no idea what they are saying. Turning something so beautiful - love of one's own body - to something so ugly like porn says more about the people who hold that perspective than it does about the niche itself.
Happy Wednesday - you're midway through the week and Friday will be here before you know it!
